Looking for a Binance alternative in Sweden? You are not alone — and this time it is not by choice. On July 1, 2026, Binance shut down services for EU users after failing to secure a MiCA licence. New deposits, new trades and new sign-ups are suspended. In this guide we cover what happened, what to do with your assets, and which licensed alternatives actually measure up.

What happened to Binance in the EU?

Short version: the MiCA framework requires every crypto exchange operating in the EU to hold a licence from a European regulator. The deadline was June 30, 2026. Binance applied via Greece in January 2026, but with the application heading for rejection, the company withdrew it — and on July 1 services for EU users were suspended.

  • Suspended since July 1, 2026: new spot trading, new deposits, new accounts, staking and yield products.
  • Still working: withdrawals. You can move your assets whenever you want.

The rejection reportedly centred on Binance’s regulatory history, including the 2023 US settlement over anti-money-laundering violations. Whatever the cause, the conclusion for Swedish users is the same: Binance is no longer a working option in the EU.

Your funds on Binance — where you stand

No panic needed: your assets are accessible and withdrawals work. There is no official deadline to empty your account. But leaving your holdings on an exchange that can no longer operate in the EU is not a long-term plan — you are left without trading, without deposits and with uncertain service going forward.

Move methodically, not in panic. Panic moves are how people send funds to the wrong network or wrong address. Always test with a small amount first.

Best Binance alternatives in 2026

The thing that sank Binance — MiCA — is also your best friend when choosing a replacement: the licence is now the clearest quality filter in the EU. Here is the field:

Exchange EU licence Pro fees (maker/taker) Comment
Kraken MiCA (Central Bank of Ireland) 0.25% / 0.40% Our first choice — see why below
Coinbase MiCA (CSSF, Luxembourg) 0.40% / 0.60% Simplest app, higher fees
Other MiCA exchanges Varies Varies Always check the licence first

Why Kraken as first choice? Three reasons. One: Kraken Pro fees (0.25%/0.40%) are among the lowest of any licensed exchange — closest to what Binance users are used to. Two: the selection of 600+ cryptocurrencies is the largest among licensed alternatives, so odds are good your Binance coins are listed. Three: the security record — no major incident with lost customer funds since 2011. We wrote a full Kraken review with everything you need to know.

Considering Coinbase instead? We compared the two in detail: Kraken vs Coinbase 2026. Short version: Coinbase has the simplest app, Kraken has lower fees and a bigger selection.

How to move your assets — step by step

Step 1: Open an account at your new exchange

Register and complete verification (passport, driving licence or ID card) before you start moving anything. It usually takes only a few minutes.

Step 2: Decide what to move as crypto and what to sell

Coins listed on both exchanges are easiest to move as crypto. Small positions and coins your new exchange does not list may be simpler to sell on Binance and move as stablecoin or withdraw as fiat. Remember: every sale and swap is a taxable event in Sweden — check the rules before you sell.

Step 3: Test with a small amount

Send a small test transfer per coin first: copy the deposit address from the new exchange, make sure the network matches exactly (e.g. ERC-20 vs BEP-20 — the classic that costs people money), and confirm the test amount arrives.

Step 4: Move the rest and document everything

Transfer the remaining balance, save the transaction IDs and export your trading history from Binance while the account is still accessible — you will need it for your tax declaration.

Watch out for scammers

Situations like this are high season for fraud. Binance never calls asking for passwords or codes, and no legitimate actor offers to “help move your coins” via DM. Fetch every address yourself, logged in on the real sites — never via links in emails or messages.

Frequently asked questions

Can I still use Binance in Sweden?

Not in practice. Since July 1, 2026, new trading, deposits and sign-ups are suspended for EU users. Only withdrawals work.

Do I have to move my funds off Binance right away?

There is no official deadline and withdrawals work. But leaving assets on an exchange without EU authorisation is not a long-term plan — move methodically within a reasonable time.

What is the best Binance alternative in Sweden?

For most people: Kraken — MiCA licence, low fees (0.25%/0.40% on Pro) and the widest selection among licensed exchanges. Coinbase is the option if you prioritise the simplest possible app.

Does moving off Binance trigger taxes?

Moving crypto between your own accounts/wallets is not a taxable event. But selling or swapping (even into stablecoins) is a disposal that must be declared in Sweden.

Could Binance come back to the EU?

The company says it will seek a licence in another EU member state, but nothing has been granted. Plan as if Binance is unavailable — you can always reassess later.
